Artist Statement
If art does not carry a message — immediate, philosophical and sharp; a metaphor that awakens and genuinely helps — it does not concern me. In a world of information excess, and in a society that feels estranged from art, we are obliged to re-examine the ground we stand on and to speak in terms that can be understood.
This place and this time are decisive; the socio-political context is inseparable. Practical philosophy runs through everything. Our role is to act as gadflies. Otherwise we end up mere entertainers — and that offers consolation, perhaps, but not cure. Art is healing in many ways, and that is what we ought to hold as our criterion.
This is how I approach my work: materials and form are the means; the message and society, the purpose.
Curriculum Vitae
ENNIOS EROS GIOGOS (b. 1990) is a visual artist based in Athens. A graduate of the School of Fine Arts in Ioannina, he holds an MSc in Sustainable and Social Design from the University of West Attica, where he is currently a PhD Candidate. In 2024, he was selected as a Leader Artist representing Greece at the European Capital of Culture Tartu. He is a member of the Chamber of Fine Arts of Greece (EETE) and of the art collective Art Unitas, and serves on the Board of Directors of the Visual Artists Association of Mesogaia (EI.ME.).
Rooted in a street art sensibility cultivated since adolescence, his practice investigates weight — physical, linguistic, and existential — as the connective tissue between matter and meaning. This inquiry moves from Sculpture of Language, where graffiti letterforms become spatial volumes, through Duty Traces and Coexistence, to its current culmination in Weights of Art (2025–present): an ongoing series reinterpreting the kettlebell as a vessel for cultural heritage, each piece numbered and signed within a closed edition.
