Socrates Kettlebell

The Weights of Philosophy

Socrates brings philosophy back as a way of life. “Know thyself” speaks of discipline, persistence and the daily work on the self: philosophical practice becomes sculpture and takes on material form.

About the Socrates Kettlebell

Socrates never wrote anything down; he taught by asking questions, walking and talking in the agora. Here his bust takes on weight and volume, as if the Socratic question, returning again and again until something opens, had found material form. In the Socrates Kettlebell the form of the kettlebell meets the classical portrait: the handle rises from the philosopher’s head like an idea taking shape. It belongs to The Weights of Philosophy, beside Marcus Aurelius.

Editions and dimensions

The Socrates Kettlebell is made in 3 numbered editions, named after boxing weight classes: Heavyweight, an edition of 30 pieces (25 × 22 × 14 cm, 3 kg); Middleweight, an edition of 60 pieces (19 × 11 × 10 cm, 1 kg); and Featherweight, an edition of 90 pieces (13 × 7 × 7 cm). The form is the same in every edition; only scale and mass change.

Colours and finishes

It is made in 13 colours: black glossy, white, beige, blue, yellow, orange, magenta, green, red, silver, pastel pink, terracotta and antique bronze. Other colours can be made on request.
